Everyone deserves a good night’s sleep!

A good night’s sleep is something people take for granted. For many people, possibly even you included, getting a good night’s sleep and waking up rested can be extremely difficult.

If any of the following symptoms sound familiar you may suffer from a sleep-related disorder;

  1. -Do you snore loudly?

  2. -Do you feel tired or sleepy during daylight hours

  3. -Have you been told that you stop breathing, gasp or choke while sleeping?

This questionnaire is used by some doctors to screen patients for sleep disorders. It helps identify excessive daytime sleepiness – a common symptom of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). You can fill it out and see the results to assess your score. If necessary, you should share your results with your doctor. As you review each situation, ask yourself how likely you are to doze off or fall asleep, in contrast to just feeling tired.

Sleep disordered breathing is a common condition associated with adverse outcomes including hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is one of the most common types of sleep disordered breathing which involves the cessation of breathing during sleep due to a partial or complete collapse of the upper airway. It can have serious consequences and can interfere with a person’s normal physical, mental and emotional functioning. Fortunately though, OSA can be evaluated and treated to prevent further or worsening complications. That’s where we at HorizonAire are ready and willing to help you.

By booking your appointment with HorizonAire to have an overnight sleep study, you and your family physician have taken the first step in addressing your sleep issues. Our sleep screening diagnostic device can be used at home and will provide the interpreting Respirologist with enough information to determine whether or not you suffer from a sleep disorder.

Treating your OSA
If your overnight sleep study indicates you have OSA, then you may be prescribed Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy. CPAP is one of the most common and effective treatments of OSA. When you are ready to be setup with the CPAP therapy, a trained Respiratory Therapist at HorizonAire will be available to provide a complete in-servicing on the equipment and to answer any questions you may have at that time. We realize that close follow up during the initial weeks of CPAP use is crucial. HorizonAire staff will be available to offer helpful compliance tips and to address any concerns you may have regarding your treatment. Our ultimate goal is to address the previous issues you had with sleep so you can look forward to being a morning person again!

Our Cure the Snore Sleep Apnea Screening & Treatment Program is not your average sleep study ... this is an enhanced service.  Here is a brief outline.

Choosing the Right Mask

You need to choose your mask carefully. Your mask should fit easily and comfortably with a good seal that prevents leaks into or around the eyes. The first thing to establish is how you naturally breathe (through the mouth, nose, or both). Secondly, establish if you are sensitive to enclosed spaces or have allergies. HorizonAire has a large selection of quality masks for you to choose from. Our Sleep Consultant will assist you and help ‘fit’ the right mask to suit your needs.
