Many people suffer from a variety of heart, lung and other respiratory illnesses that can be assisted by supplemental oxygen. In fact, about 4% of the Canadian adult population can benefit from oxygen therapy for respiratory care. Why? Oxygen makes up 21% of the air we breathe, but during times of illness, our bodies often require oxygen levels greater than 21%. In these cases, a physician will often prescribe oxygen, a non-addictive drug which can be safely administered in the home.

OxyGo 5 Portable Oxygen Concentrator
An oxygen concentrator runs on electric power. An on-board compressor draws in room air (21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen, 1% other gases) and pumps it into one of two sets of molecular sieves. Through this process, nitrogen is absorbed from room air and high purity oxygen becomes available on demand, set at a flow rate as per your doctor's prescription.
Since oxygen concentrators run on electric power, most customers have a back-up supply of oxygen in case of a power failure, black out or emergency situation. Several different cylinders are available (`E', 'M', or 'K'), however, `E' is our recommendation as it is lightweight, priced right and can substitute as a portable system, providing additional value. The chart below demonstrates size, capacity and average hours of use with a Continuous Flow Regulator (CFR).
When you want to go out and about, for shopping, family visits or simply to enjoy an active lifestyle, portable cylinders provide freedom and easy portability. Coupled with an Oxygen Conserving Device (OCD) Regulator, this portable system can last for hours. The OCD (pictured) attaches to the cylinder top and then is placed in the shoulder bag for convenient carrying. This system is very lightweight and oxygen dependable. Please see the chart below for available cylinder sizes, flow rate and average durations.
A Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) is a portable alternative for patients who prefer not to use cylinders. HorizonAire's POC lines are light weight, AC/DC, operate with a rechargeable battery and are FDA approved for air travel for your convenience. Several different models are available to meet your requirements.
Liquid oxygen was originally developed as a portable system alternative to cylinder medical oxygen. Liquid oxygen comes in large capacity reservoirs delivered to your home by truck via pre-arranged schedule. The large reservoir is equipped with a smaller portable refillable tank that is filled by the patient from an outlet on the reservoir. Please note that Liquid Oxygen Systems from HorizonAire are available by special order only.
